About Us

Most of us have a story we tell at the kitchen table. The HOA board that fined us for something it had already approved. The coworker whose lunch kept going missing until it was ours. The relative who borrowed money and then forgot who from. And most of us have a chapter of our own we would have written differently, if anyone had asked.

This site is a place for both kinds.

What you’ll find here

Short stories. First-person accounts of ordinary people who were pushed too far and found a way to set things right: neighbor disputes, family betrayals, workplace thieves, homeowners’ associations that forgot who they work for. They are told in the voice of the person who lived them, and the ending is usually the best part.

Novels. Full-length stories with grown-up heroines: women starting over after a divorce, raising a child alone, running a business, or finally saying what they should have said years ago. Expect secrets, second chances, and someone who turns up at exactly the wrong (or right) moment.

How it works

Everything here is free to read. There’s no account to create and no app to download.

Novels are posted chapter by chapter. Each chapter is a comfortable read on your phone, and the link to the next one waits at the bottom of the page, so you can read a chapter in the school pickup line and carry on after dinner.

Some stories offer later chapters by email. If you’d like new chapters and new stories sent to you, join the newsletter.

The site is supported by ads, which is how every story stays free.

Who writes them

Most of the stories here are written and edited by Emily Dawson, with earlier pieces from Laura Bennett and Amelia Rose. Every story is read in full before it goes up.
